Nokia’s Upcoming Phone, The Nokia 6 Has Leaked

Nokia 6 was the first phone the company launched when it announced its comeback back in last year,the phone was a reasonably priced mid-range phone that sold very well in China. Now, it looks like HMD global is preparing to launch a new version of the phone with some added features and some major changes. AndroidHeadlines found the listing of the phone on TENAA’s website.

The leaked phone has model number TA-1054 and it will probably be launched next month. The phone will have a 5.5-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and it will probably be powered by the Snapdragon 630 SoC accompanied by 4 GB of RAM.

In terms of storage, the listing suggests that the phone with come with 32 GB of Internal memory which will be expandable. There will be a fingerprint sensor too and just like theleaked Nokia 9, Nokia 6 will have a dual camera system on its back and the ‘Bothie’ feature which first came with Nokia 7 last month. This feature allows a user to shoot photos from both, the front and the back camera at once.

Considering the smartphone market is very competitive especially in the mid-range phones, it will be interesting to see how Nokia’s offering compares to phones from other brands in the same price section.

Everything We Know About The Upcoming Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S3

It has been a long time since a high-end android tablet like Pixel C was released. As smartphones get bigger and more powerful tablets, that were once a hit with the public, have now become less common and preferred. Most of the new tablets released in the recent past have been aimed at budget buyers or children. However now as Samsung’s Galaxy S8 has been postponed till spring it is pretty clear that Samsung will be bringing a high-end tablet to the market at the MWC 2017.

It will be a huge upgrade from Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 that has been in the market since 2015. Samsung has had a lot of time to work on its flagship tablet.

The Tab S2 had come in two sizes 8 inches and 9.7 inches. However, according to a report from South Korea-based Naver News, the Galaxy Tab S3 will come in just one bigger size 9.6 inches with 2048×1536 display. A recent leak on German-based WinFuture.de, the flagship product will be identical in design to its predecessor, with a pill-shaped home button/fingerprint scanner with a pair of standard navigation buttons on the sides. It will, however, be thinner that the Galaxy S2.

The Galaxy Tab S3 may look similar to its predecessor but it will come with many upgrades. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, an upgrade from the earlier Exynos chip. It will get a 4 GB RAM (there was 3GB in Galaxy S2) and it will be equipped with a 12 MP rear and 5 MP front camera ( 8MP and 2 MP in Galaxy S2). The Galaxy S2 will run on Android Nougat, though it is yet to be seen if Samsung will add some additional features to it for the larger screen size.

The best inclusion in the Galaxy S3 will be the S Pen. While it isn’t the first Samsung tablet to come with a stylus, it will be the first in the Galaxy Tab S line to sport it. Sammobile has reported that the tablet won’t come with a slot for the stylus, and the S Pen will come in the box with the product.

Samsung has announced that the new device will be revealed at MWC on Feb. 26 at 7:00 pm CET (1 p.m. EST) at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. The Naver report stated that the Galaxy Tab S3 will be priced a bit more than the S2 ($500) at somewhere around $600.

Indian Automaker Mahindra to Open Blockchain Incubator

Indian multinational and conglomerate Mahindra will set up a blockchain incubator to support startups in the development of blockchain-based applications in a number of industries.

As a conglomerate, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has a foothold as a major automaker in Indiawith exports of vehicles to multiple countries, a presence in finance, IT, finance, consulting and other industries. With its incubator, the aim is to develop blockchain solutions that can be across multiple companies in the Mahindra Group, according to a report in the Business Line.

In quotes reported by the publication, group president for strategy Anish Shah stated:

We are looking at an incubation center for Blockchain, which will be a global center…We are looking at developing a business. We’ve got about 7-10 cases for Blockchain [tech] within the group.

In late 2016, Mahindra partnered tech giant IBM to develop a cloud-based blockchain solution in trade finance for the Indian market. The offering will see all parties involved in a supply chain finance transaction participating on a single shared ledger. A traditionally cumbersome process wherein errors and unpaid dues are commonplace, real-time access to logistics and capital or credit could significantly improve supply chain finance in the country. That particular solution is aimed at small and mid-sized enterprises who are clients with Mahindra Finance, the finance arm of the company.

Blockchain technology could significantly alter supply trade finance for the better in India.

“We started with supply chain and invoice discounting for supply chain,” added Shah. “There are a number of use cases for Mahindra Finance and use cases for auto business and then we can take it forward for other business.”

In a clear indicator of M&M going big on blockchain investment and development, the incubator will be independent of the work being done by Tech Mahindra, a group company of the conglomerate. The latter is also working toward developing Blockchain solutions, as product offerings to its clients. M&M will look to introduce blockchain solutions developed from the incubator into its own working group of companies.

Other similar efforts toward mass blockchain implementation in India sees Yes Bank, a major private sector lender in India announce a multi-node blockchain solution to digitize and automate vendor financing. The proof-of-concept transaction was tested in the real world with a major electrical equipment manufacturer and proved to be successful. The blockchain was hosted on IBM’s cloud platform.

Apple is suing Qualcomm for 1 Billion Dollars

One of the biggest patent trolls in the world is after another big company, but this time it is a bit different.

The company filed a lawsuit today for a $1 billion against one of the largest smartphone chip maker -Qualcomm citing some shady business practices. The lawsuit says that Qualcomm withheld payments from Apple for licensing some technology in exchange for using wireless modems.

Although Qualcomm is widely known for its Snapdragon mobile processors and SoCs, the company also has a significant market of wireless modems and other smartphone techs.

Before Apple, Federal Trade Commission of US was also after Qualcomm for using similar monopoly tatics. The FTC lawsuit suggested that Qualcomm was forcing companies to use its products by charging more license fee for SoCs for customers who were using competitor’s product. So much that it made competitor’s product more expensive that they are.



Here is Apple’s full statement about why they are suing:

“For many years Qualcomm has unfairly insisted on charging royalties for technologies they have nothing to do with. The more Apple innovates with unique features such as TouchID, advanced displays, and cameras, to name just a few, the more money Qualcomm collects for no reason and the more expensive it becomes for Apple to fund these innovations. Qualcomm built its business on older, legacy, standards but reinforces its dominance through exclusionary tactics and excessive royalties. Despite being just one of over a dozen companies who contributed to basic cellular standards, Qualcomm insists on charging Apple at least five times more in payments than all the other cellular patent licensors we have agreements with combined.

To protect this business scheme Qualcomm has taken increasingly radical steps, most recently withholding nearly $1B in payments from Apple as retaliation for responding truthfully to law enforcement agencies investigating them.

Apple believes deeply in innovation and we have always been willing to pay fair and reasonable rates for patents we use. We are extremely disappointed in the way Qualcomm is conducting its business with us and unfortunately after years of disagreement over what constitutes a fair and reasonable royalty we have no choice left but to turn to the courts.”

Be prepared for the demise of Windows 7

Microsoft has announced that the extended support of the Windows 7 operating system would be terminated in 4 years. Although the mainstream support ended in January 2015, an extension of 5 years, which provides security and technical supports to users was given. Unfortunately, that will also end soon.

Windows made it clear that the extension support protects users of Windows 7 OS from malicious attacks, hackers, viruses or any form of internet spyware, that could corrupt their systems. However, when the extension support is terminated, users of Windows 7 risk exposure to harmful malware , which could wreak damage on the OS and sabotage its performance. Therefore, it is advisable that Windows 7 users upgrade their OS before its death  on January 14, 2020.

This is quite sad because the Windows 7 OS is one of the most successful works of Microsoft which has been widely accepted. According to the operating system market share, Windows 7 has the largest percentage of world users.

Windows further explained that certain devices, such as printers, may lose their compatibility with the Windows 7 OS as many hardware manufacturers no longer provide its drivers.

Lovers of Windows 7 would agree that apart from being incredibly easy to use, the OS is also quite enjoyable. Although Microsoft had subtly registered that Windows 7  would meet the same fate as Windows XP and Vista, when Windows 8 and 10 OS were launched, the sudden announcement of its impending demise is one the world may not be willing to accept.
